Responsible play

Responsible play: the lottery is entertainment

No statistic, system or pattern can make you win the lottery consistently. Keep it fun.

Understand the odds

Every draw is independent and random. Yesterday's result, 300-day frequencies or long overdue streaks have no effect on the next draw. Over time, ticket buyers always spend more than they win back.

Four simple rules

  • Set a budget: only spend what you can afford to lose on entertainment. Never borrow to buy tickets.
  • Limit your time: don't let number-watching take the place of family, work or sleep.
  • Don't chase losses: never spend more to win back what you lost.
  • Buy legal tickets only: use licensed agents. "Lô đề" betting is illegal.

Signs it's time to stop

  • You spend more on tickets than planned, or hide it from family.
  • You feel restless or irritable when you don't buy tickets.
  • You borrow money, sell belongings or neglect responsibilities because of the lottery.

Getting help

If you or someone close to you shows these signs, talk to someone you trust and consider seeing a doctor or counsellor. The international self-help fellowship Gamblers Anonymous also offers resources and online meetings.

Minors

People under 18 may not buy lottery tickets. Parents should talk with their children about the risks of gambling.
